Most automobile manufacturers have ALWAYS recommended coolant and brake fluids be changed every two years, regardless of milage. Conventional brake fluid is hydroscopic and absorbs moisture over time, lowering it's boiling point, reducing it's effectiveness and creating corrosion within the hydraulic system. With today's Anti-lock brake system components being so expensive to replace, it's more of an issue than it was in years past. Ditto for the cooling system. More and more components in the cooling system are made of aluminum today (cylinder heads, radiator & heater cores, water pumps, etc.), and are much more prone to corrosion damage than cast iron or steel. Some auto makers are recommending 100,000 mile replacement intervals for spark plugs, but few of their cars will run efficiently to that milage with out changing them. If you plan to keep the car for a number of years, changing the fluids at the recommended intervals is cheap insurance. Just my $.02
