I understand completely, last year I finally got my first garage and it's wonderful! The winters there at Tech aren't all that conducive to standing out in a parking lot working on a car, either.
You can change the belt at any time, removing the pulley doesn't make it all that much easier.
When you do start working on the car, invest in the Saab shop manuals. The CD is expensive at $225, but covers the whole car. You can get individual paper volumes for around $15 each, but the entire set will end up running around $500.
Enjoy the car.
