Viggen alternator may be dying? Posted by DivrDon [Email] (#1004) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DivrDon) on Mon, 30 May 2016 15:21:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On the way to getting my radiator replaced, I noticed the battery warning light flash on for 4-5 sec. Then went off. After I picked up the car with the new radiator, the light flashed on then off about 5 time. Over the course of a week of driving back & forth to work, it flashes on and off, never on for more than 10-25 sec. Seems to come on if I rapidly accelerate over 3-3,500 rpm. Checked the connections and charging voltage today and all were clean and tight, with the voltage at 13-13.5 volts with the engine at 2,000 rpm. Is it time for a new alternator with 140k on my 2002 Viggen or is there something else to check first? Indie wants $800 to put in a rebuilt and after just having the radiator and some top switches replaced, I'd like to try everything I could before replacing the alternator.
