Bypass valve should open at 3.8 bar (55 psi) Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Thu, 1 Dec 2016 10:59:22 In Reply to: High oil pressure when cold, Bufkin [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 30 Nov 2016 20:36:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
per Haynes manual, but maybe the bypass valve can't flow enough thick, cold oil to keep this pressure. See if a fresh oil filter fixes the high pressure problem. If not, you may want to check bypass valve spring. I measured spring to be 62 mm long. Perhaps someone stretched it out to get higher oil pressure when engine was having sludge issues in order to stop the instrument cluster oil warning light and triangle/ding-dong at idle. Using a bent Q-tip, one can check relief valve passages after removing oil pump cover and pump gears.
