Here are the steps that I used to remove my heater core and o-rings.
Drain coolant.
2. Remove a heater hose from the engine up by the intake and blow air into it to get all the coolant out of the heater core.
3. Remove the ACC unit – Pull straight out on it to remove it. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back.
4. Remove the glove box – multiple torx bit screws. Pull straight out on it and disconnect the 2 wires that connect to the back of the light switch.
5. Remove the plastic covers on either side of the center console by pulling them toward the front of the car.
6. Remove small cover from over the ignition switch. – pull straight up and wiggle it.
7. Open the door on the very rear of the floor console just in front of the rear seat, and remove torx screw holding cover to the back of the console.
8. Remove the rear floor console cover.
9. Remove 2 10mm nuts holding rear console to floor.
10. Remove the switches that control the electric windows. Pull straight up to remove them. Disconnect the wiring from the bottom of the switches.
11. Remove cover from around the ignition console area…it’s the cover just under the ignition cover you removed in step 6 – Pull straight up to remove.
12. Remove torx screw from under cover you removed in step 11.
13. Remove any additional switches on console (interior light switch on convertibles)
14. Remove floor console
15. Recover years of lost coins and put them in your kid’s college fund.
16. Remove dash console that holds ACC and storage compartments (just below radio)
17. Remove air duct under floor console
18. Remove small air ducts on either side of the heater box
19. Open heater box door (secured by small plastic clips)
(Hey, there is your heater core)
20. Remove clips that hold metal hoses up into heater core
21. Pull down on metal hoses to get them out of the heater core. There are the troublesome o-rings in there.
22. Remove clips on sides of the heater box and the box will open wider allowing you to remove the heater core
23. Reassemble in reverse order.
Hopefully didn't miss any steps but if I did, feel free to add to it. These are the steps on a 2000 Saab 9-3 convertible SE.
