Aye ! YES ! I third it! I use shell Rotella T-6, 5W-40 all year round here in Tucson in all the SAABS ( and every other car too! ) ( It never gets really cold here ) OIL ! this is a sometimes subject on FB, eT all sites and a never ending subject of debate ! it can get so silly and heated sometimes w/ some contributors spouting complete utter nonsense making wild, inaccurate assertions vehemently dissing some brands and praising another using the most specious, untrue, illogical logic completely unsupported by any facts, research, references or plausible sources ! If they had been students of mine I would have flunked most! it;s so bad it's laughable! now about Shell Rotella T-6, a petroleum engineer said that" it's the best oil in the world !" made w/ a higher concentration of essential additives, some not even found in other oils as it was(originally ) a "diesel " oil. diesel engines arguably have a harder time than our gas engines tho' the turbos in a diesel have an easier time as they run cooler than a gas, petrol engine. hence, they required and were permitted additives and in levels the EPA, DOT frowned upon. here's some thoughts by a petroleum expert that were published in the NINES #261 (Saab club of USA ) magazine years ago "Rotella T synthetic is made w/ shell's XHVI base oil which unlike other oils does not begin as distilled crude oil hence...is truly the ONLY one that can be legitimately be called "synthetic " ! XHVI is a wax isomerate, meaning that it is made from the slack wax removed from distilled crude in normal solvent dewaxing. this slack wax is catalytically transformed (isomerized ) and hydro-finished into a chemically pure base oil that rivals other base stock formulations. Shells' formulation is unique as it uses XHVI base oil. ONLY Shell is made from pure petroleum slack wax. so don't be so quick to dismiss Rotella T synthetic as just another "synthetic pretender " it's made w/ the same base oil as Shells helix ultra and every time you see a Ferrari win a formula 1 race, that's the oil in the engine ". "In the end, oil performance is determined by base oil quality, AND properly balanced formulary AND additive quality, AND proper manufacturing processes AND proper distribution practices. When talking about performance, it's better to talk about the finished oil rather than it's individual components "XHVI means extra high viscosity index XHVI is a registered term w/ Shell I know of no industry standard for defining this term "! PS and you can find it at wall-mart for about $20.00 a GALLON ! so it's a bargain too! regards, Neil
