Many on-line articles are diesel, marine and piston aircraft centric where engines are on high loads for long time durations [steady state]. With a turbocharged street vehicle, WOT times are typically very short. On the highway, sustained fuel combustion rates typically do not involve boost unless speeds are very high.
For short bursts of power, the transient effects of high EGT are muted by thermal mass of head, valves and exhaust manifolds. EGT can be managed with water injection. Dyno runs can be the highest stress events and engines do fail on dyno runs. So what comes first, thermal failure or piston/rod failure?
