Oh, something like that happened to my wife's 99' 9-3 cv The local Saab god got it open( this has happened before ! )leave it latched only on the secondary latch once you get it open -wedge it so it can't close all the way then go home and do this : I added a temporary pull cable -a coat hanger wire! I routed it straight out from the latch along and barely protruding from the space between the hood and front grille (tie onto the loop w/ a piece of fishing line in case it slips inside ) The metal clamp/ clip that holds the end of the cable ferrule, where the inner cable leaves the housing to pull on the latch is pathetic ! a very wimpy piece! I found a larger stouter, stronger clamp/ clip at a hardware store, modified it to suit and fitted, used it gave a handful to the Saab god. Pull cables such as this, are an antiquated technology but I suspect there are motorcycle shops that still have the material to make cables. MY motorcycle shop used to. For an investment of a few hundred dollars for cable outer, inner, cable ends, and ferrules and a "solder pot " I could start making these cables easily mayhaps there is a market if they are NLA from Saab? ( i always put some silver solder in the solder pot too so the ends were very strong and would NEVER pull off ! ) and there are Teflon lined sleeves available that can go between the outer and inner cables to negate /reduce friction! regards, NEIL PS crimp on ends are totally useless in a high pull, friction situ like the hood cable. you really MUST use a soldered on end as you discovered? and I doubt bicycle cables are strong enough and would fail easily! there are mechanical motorcycle size clutch cable types that would be stout enough for a lifetime I imagine!
