Saab turbos have always had oil coolers; most hi-po cars made since the '80s. Nobody empties the oil cooler, it's never hurt Saabs or other cars. The sludging issue is entirely the fault of too-long oil changes combined with a goofy PCV system combined with a necessarily evil catalyst placement combined with a too-small oil pickup screen. Essentially nothing changed between T5 and T7 cars and T5 cars never had the sludging problem. The color of oil is indicative of virtually nothing - trace amounts of carbon black - a byproduct of combustion - combined with the heat cycling of oil changes the color, and it takes very little of each to turn it black. My diesel Jeep turns the oil jet black after the first mile and then I put 5,000 more on it.
There is nothing *wrong* with emptying the cooler (aside from the obvious risk of damage to fittings and from turning it over with no oil) but I certainly wouldn't waste my time with it.
