In all of my SAAB owning I have never had a DIC problem. Not sure if it was that I didn't keep the car long, or because I would just randomly change out DIC's because I had a bunch of them when they were cheap and easy to get from the yards. Either way my recent purchase of a 01 we vert is what brings me to ask this question. The car runs great move it around in the yard with no problem. Then there is the times it will stall out. Sometimes it would start back and sometimes it would not. It would either sit for a few mins before it would start again or a few days. Couple weeks ago I moved it to the middle of my driveway, ran fine. Now it won't start.
I knew about this problem before the purchase but since the po said it was diagnosed as a weak fuel pump and the car was a good price I figured why not.
Fuel pressure at the rail is fine. The pump pumps when turned on and while cranking the engine. The rpm gauge moves while cranking. I have replaced the fuel filter. I even put in the new non-SAAB fuel pump that came with the car which died soon after putting it in (pressure, tried to start a couple times then no pressure. Gas just barely comes out top of pump) so I pulled that and back to original.
That leaves me with the only thing I have not checked is the DIC. I did not think to check it because as I stated I have never had a problem with them. I have 3 other 9-5's and a spare that I keep in the wife's car. I will try one of those but just wanted to ask if that is possible that they can for and come back before complete death. That's the only thing I seem to come up with far as the sometimes starting and sometimes not starting and now not starting at all. I doubt it would be an alarm problem. Oh and there is not nor was there any check lights.
