Hi Wayne,
I live in the NW part of Colorado Springs. I need to do a little research on the chain and tensioner scenario and figure out how to access it. Still learning my way around this engine layout. Somehow it doesn’t seem right that a timing chain would need to be replaced at 130K miles. I did successfully get the SAAB Workstation Information System (WIS) electronic manual installed on my garage laptop and that will no doubt be an invaluable resource. Not sure that I have a 27mm socket but I do have a 1/2 “ breaker bar.
I’m really falling behind on my wrenching as I did something to my wrist and can’t use it effectively. Accomplished a few minor things the other day like swapping out the courtesy light switch on the drivers door and tightening up some loose interior bits that were squeaking. Now the lights come on when I open the door…minor joy but I’ll take what I can get at the moment. Also removed and cleaned up the ACC Cabin Temp Sensor which turned out to be much easier than I expected.
My motor mounts have already been replaced by the PO and are in pretty good shape although mine is an automatic. However, I did notice a nice selection of performance oriented mounts/bushings, etc. on the genuinesaab.com site. I have not ordered any parts from them yet but they do have a window regulator repair kit that I am hopeful will fix my left rear window. I have recently purchased a number of parts from eeuroparts.com and have been happy with them. RockAuto.com always remains a viable option. The thing I like about them is being able to choose the manufacturer of the part. There are other site sponsors listed so it may pay to check around since I suppose with the Viggen your options may be more limited.
I really need to focus on getting my new thermostat installed and heater hoses replaced. I noticed the one heater hose with the larger end is really soft underneath where it connects to the engine. I was going to start that project the other day but got discouraged trying to gain access to the radiator stopcock and thermostat. Engine was still a bit hot and could tell it was going to take more time than I had at the moment. Maybe this weekend...I’ve got to get the 9-3 projects done. It needs to be my daily driver that I don’t have to think about so I can focus on getting the C900 parts car stripped and reclaim some much needed garage space.
Matt
