Thanks, Nick,! Yup I know they can fail and rarely we suppose, spectacularly! We had a fan speed resistor fail/ short out on the wifes 99' 9-3 caused an underhood fire -burned the fan shroud and other bits, melted a hole in the battery case, fried wires, hoses, cables, almost totaled the car! 3$K worth of damage! She called me, l could see the cloud of black smoke from our house! I drove to the store a mile away and about the time I got there, the fire burned a hole in the top radiator hose which put out the fire! This just as the fire dept arrived ! the fire chief said "hey! theses Saabs really are safe cars! They have an automatic fire suppression system"! note all the hoses, wires cables I had put heat resistant sleeves on fr DEI INC and Thermo-tec were unharmed! ( Had not done them all ! the larger dia. covers are expensive and there are miles of stuff to cover in a Saab engine bay!) We can see why the FAA requires fire-proof hose covers on vital stuff on aircraft! It works! PS the hood insulation did it's job ! the paint on the hood was not harmed ! adjuster said it's what kept car fr being totalled !
