I too am not a fan of loud exhausts, after I put a Fox stainless exhaust on my '91 9000T.
My stock Viggen exhaust is not loud. When I really step on it, it has a bit of a V6 or V8 growl to it, but not loud. I wonder if you have a hole in your exhaust?
