You're in exactly the same boat I am. I also have a '97 900 coupe with a sagging headliner. It got so bad I ripped the fabric off, and now have a brownish-orange foam headliner. The 3-door and 5-door cars use different headliners, so there's no compatibility there. A '99 9-3 headliner would fit, but even then, the dome lights are different sizes, so you'd have to get the front and rear dome lights and wire those up, too. I had a chance to get one of those at a local Pick and Pill, and I still don't know whether or not to kick myself for not getting it. After '99, more pieces of the interior trim changed and headliners from those years wouldn't fit without a lot more work.
Your best bet, and what I'm going to do something before winter, is to just get your existing headliner recovered. You can do it yourself with material you can buy over the internet, or you can take it most any automotive upholstery shop. They usually charge about $200-$300.
