Condensation on the inside windows

I have a 2002 9-3 4-door hatch. On cold damp days, I get condensation on the inside windows. If it's cold enough, it turns to ice. I'm getting water, I believe, somewhere in the firewall area. There are no leaks in the door window seals nor the hatch glass. This occurred last winter, but spring and summer were no issue. Now that the cold weather has returned (Long Island), it has started again.
I did detect a wet rug under the driver's floor mat this past weekend and actually used my shop-vac to 'suck' a little water through the carpet and left the floor mat off to help it dry out. It is nearly dry, but the water got in there somehow and there's no rust through in the floor. Can it come in through the base of the windshield and run down to enter the interior? By the way, the passenger side rug is dry.
Where do I start looking?
