Viggen companion flange removal Posted by SPG Jr [Email] (#1830) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SPG Jr) on Wed, 30 Jan 2019 09:09:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
‘00 Viggen, manual trans
I will be servicing the CV joints and boots this Spring, including replacing the right side outer universal joint and the tripod bearing.
I hope there is no wear or issue with the inner driver companion (cup) flanges but if there is, I haven’t been able to find info on removing it while leaving the intermediate shaft in the trans.
Diagram shows a lock ring, sealing ring and 2 snap rings between the companion flange and carrier bearing, then another snap ring behind the carrier.
-Which of these needs to be removed to get the companion flange off?
-Accessible with snap ring pliers or more to it?
-And once removed, does it slide off the intermediate shaft pretty easily or will it need some encouragement from a mallet?
Any other insights appreciated! Thanks in advance.
