It looks like the drain of the oil separator is right at the bottom of the can. Should I be able to hear liquid splashing when I blow into the large VC hose? Nothing leaked out of the drain nipple when I replaced the small drain hose, but I also didn't stick anything into the drain nipple to see if it was clogged or not. Maybe I should check that? And the air flow path is still a little confusing to me. Without the updated kit, I can see how separator return air is directed back into the turbo. But with the update, the new T connection also directs air back into the fill tube.
Yeah, I wondered if there was a problem BEFORE I replaced the big VC hose, and THAT was actually the cause of the old hose failure? Once the hose failed and was open to atmosphere, any extra pressure (and oil residue) was then venting onto the back side of the engine, and closing the loop with the new hose forced everything back into the system?
After verifying the check valve yesterday I unplugged the connector to the BCV and lightly cleaned the male pins with 600 grit emery paper, then put a light smear of Ox-Gard on them. I did a little driving around last night (about 20 miles) and had no oil residue weeping out from the oil cap. The engine runs fine when driving, but idle seems to have a bit of vibration to it. There's no knocking, pinging, stumbling, hesitation, or cutting out. Yeah, I'm stumped!
