Does PCV system need regular replacement?

2002 9³SE, auto, 180k miles, oil (Mobil 1) & filter replaced every 5k miles
Q: does the entire PCV system need to be replaced at regular maintenance intervals?
I've been having an on-again/off-again/on-again problem with too much positive crankcase pressure. I bought the car in 2008 with 60k miles on it and it already had the upgraded PCV system. I recently discovered that the fat hose going to the oil separator was disintegrated, so all excess crankcase pressure was venting unrestricted to atmosphere. So I just replaced the valve-cover-to-oil-separator fat hose, the oil-separator-to-oil-pan small hose, and the white one-way valve going to the throttle body. With the PCV system now "closed," I started having too much positive pressure pushing oil vapor out from under the yellow oil fill cap. I pulled the new parts to make sure they were clear and the valve was working and reinstalled everything. The positive pressure problem went away. (???) Now I've just replaced my valve cover gaskets and the problem is back.
Does the entire PCV system need replacement after some period of time?
