My suspicion is that you are dealing with poorly made cables where the ratcheting mechanism teeth are just not strong enough to keep the setting.
It is many years since I had to deal with this clutch system (6 years) and at that time, it was only Propart cables available, even from Saab. They did not work well.
It is probably better you try to find the manual adjustable cable and see if you can make it work.
