Gear shifter requires frequent alignment

Hi All,
After I do shifter alignment as per (http://photo.platonoff.com/Auto/20050325.Saab_NG900_Shifter_Alignment/) my car shifts fine for about 25-50 miles and then requires shifter alignment again otherwise it is hard to engage and disengage any gear. (my car SAAB 900 1995 v6 manual 180k).
Here is what I tried to help it. I took off my shifter linkage and added nylon washers as per (http://photo.platonoff.com/Auto/20050404.Saab_NG900_Old_Style_Shifter_Linkage/). I also replaced bushing lug (part # 4387361). But it did not help. I still need to do shifter alignment every 25-50 miles to be able to drive.
I can replace old style shifter with new style one, but honestly think my current shifter looks fine. I cannot imagine it causing such a problem shifting.
So I am thinking my transmission has gone bad and the only way to fix it is to replace it.
Anybody have any insight or experienced something similar?
Regards,
