SAAB and Audi are very different car companies! That was my realization that day: I wanted more of what Audi had to offer.
I got in the S4 and the door closed with a very solid feel like I was in a bank vault. The interior was a huge step up from the Viggen with premium quality materials. There are courtesy lights everywhere, even in the doors. Wind and road noise were non-existent.
AWD is the obvious choice for a car making any amount of power. Winter driving is just in another league. But wet and dry pavement handling is also greatly improved. The multi-link suspension is great. The clutch pedal is smooth and light.
I think you can make the case that the Viggen is a reasonable older car for a SAAB fan to have as a freeway commuter vehicle. I don't think it gets enough credit in the fuel economy department. I was amazed that I averaged 35MPG on a 5,000 mile trip some years ago.
Everyone has different tastes, and those tastes can change. I know my mom loves the old VW Beetle and her current car is a Honda Fit. I'd rather walk then be caught driving either of those! Lately I've been lusting after a Nissan GTR. Maybe when I retire...
