Have a dealer check the Saab computer to see when your idler pullies were last replaced (assuming they were replaced by a dealer instead of an independent). A good practice, I understand, it to replace both idler pullies and the serpentine belt every 60,000. It's a DIY job and should run you less than $100 for parts.
I have about 95,000 miles on my '95 900-S and it is running like a champ. The early new generation 900's had a problem with main oil seals going out, but chances are the one you are considering has already had the seal(s) replaced. So owners have had to replace the water pump too, but mine has never had a problem.
Take care of your Saab and don't drive the hell out of it, and it will last you a long time. The only reason I bought a new one in 1995 was because I got tired of waiting for my '71 to quit. They are like John Deeres: they last so long that they don't give you a good reason to buy a new one. At least the old ones were, and I hope to new ones too.
