First the Club owes a debt of gratitude to Jim for carrying us this far and its time for the rest of us slackers (you know who you are) to step and help get things moving. Jim's got twins and is learning the joys of parenting and demands on his time will just grow as they get older.
July BBQ - One of the clubs/organizations that I belong to has an annual picnic with all you can eat BBQ feast on July 12, which is the 2nd Saturday in July in Centreville, VA near Rt 28 and Rt 29, just off 66 and 29. I've never been to one, but it is my understanding that ~300 people attend and there will be ample picnic space. The beauty is that the cooking is provided.
Family events: Moon Bounce, Field events, Hay rides, music
Food: Pork BBQ, Roasted Chicken, Hot dogs Hamburger Corn, Potato Salad, Cold Beverages. Guests: $10, kids 6-12 $5 and >5 free
I'm testing the waters to see if this date works as a bogey, I know that its the week after the 4th, but I'm going to be around. Need a feel/headcount by 2-3 July.
Summerduck - Seems that many of the weekends there are big events, since most people haven't run there, how about the Thursday test and tune days. Yes it will require some advanced planning and hooky from work, but again testing the waters. Once people get comfortable, get the safety checks, have a couple of runs, etc. then maybe a weekend time. This might be one of the events were as freefoo mentioned that other clubs or friends that you know might be interested in joining up.
SOC - SOC is the weekend of August 22nd in the greater Boston area. Next year is going to be in CO, which is a longer journey.
Sept: Lunch or event in MD? Maybe something in the Frederick area?
Dyno Days: Oct? Hopefully it will be cooler, which makes Turbos run better ;) Its also after busy season and allows those in school to get settled and still make the event. Again the key to this is numbers, where (paying) friends of the Saab club, can help make numbers for discounts.
Fall Carlisle: Oct 1-5 is fall Carlisle, its not a Saab specific event, but it is one of the largest car swap meets on the East Coast.
Nov Fun Run? TBD at this point, but trying to put together a timeline.
Dec - Holiday Party/Quick meeting and dinner similar to the one we did in 06 at the Mexican place at Fair Lakes.
Chick-fil-a - Friday nights on Sterling, VA. Ad hoc events - Late July and Mid August?
Posting up some ideas to get things moving and get a feel to see what people are interested in doing for the rest of the year.
