Simple Green, a stiff brush, and a hose.... I have had fairly good luck by removing the wheels and tires, then using Simple Green,a fairly stiff poly-bristle brush, and a hose to rinse. It may take several series of cleanings with Simple Green to remove most of the brake dust.
After cleaning, I applied a coat of Klasse All-in-One sealant to help protect the surface from future damage.
Unfortunately, brake dust will etch the wheel paint and can become permanently bonded to the etched surface.
