...to be more BMW-like, (in my personal opinion). I always complained about BMWs for this especially because the buttons were all the same shape and size, a poor ergonomic practice. Even on my 1997 900, all the buttons had countours around the edges of a particular cluster of buttons. This gives you a sense of which button you are pushing witouth looking at it. Nothing like that on the new 9-3 ACC HVAC. The base 9-3 SS radio does have some contours on some of the buttons to help. In the end though, nothing beats knobs for being able to control them without looking.
