Not sure what you mean by those who fear Saab's progress. A large segment of the developed world isn't even aware of what Saab is doing. And while Saab is coming out with ethanol-powered vehicles, they're also producing vehicles, like their new XWD car, that get less than optimal gas mileage.

The Prius is not going to save the planet - I agree. However, its gas mileage is exemplary, compared to other vehicles. And while it is probably boring to drive, compared to our Saabs, they are quite roomy inside. I don't have safety data on them.

I keep thinking about living out in the country, with a wild turbine and plug-in diesel hybrid, and I'm making my own biodiesel in the shed. We'll see.
