Only on SaabNet (I think) could we seamlessly transition from discussing mounting snow tires to preferences for puncture-resistant bicycle tires.
I stopped riding Contis years ago 'cuz I found nicer riding & more puncture resistant tires. Their new stuff might be better than what I've ridden in the past.
From everything I've heard, the Schwalbe (German) tires with puncture protection belts are the most puncture resistant. Unfortunately, I guess the thick belts mean they aren't all that great at comfort, control, etc. I have no idea how much they cost.
My absolute favorite punctureproof tires are Specialized Amadillos with Flak Jacket casings. They ride nice, control well, & hardly ever puncture until you get down to the casing threads (which I do quite often). They're not much cheaper than the Contis, unless you can find them clearanced somewhere.
And I agree: bicycle tires are completely over-priced when you compare them to car tires!
