choices really vary by carrier Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Tue, 24 Nov 2009 11:42:13 In Reply to: SIMPLE cell phone options ?, STICKMAN, Wed, 18 Nov 2009 09:01:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm in the business and here are my thoughts:
There are a lot of choices of handsets, and it will really vary from carrier to carrier.
As someone above said, the network is the single most important factor. Ask around and find out who's got the best reputation for network in the areas you'll need the phone the most - near your house, work, whatever. Then find out the details of the carrier's return policy - they will have a 30-day or similar return policy where you're not locked into the contract if you return the phone or cancel service.
Let the salesperson know it's going to be your only phone, and that you want something simple. A recommendation - be willing to pay at least little something for the phone. I'm not saying this so the company makes some money, but so you end up with a phone you'll like for the whole time you've got it. You're on the Saab board, so you probably get that, but it's amazing how many customers want the penny phone and then aren't happy with it, when there's one for $20 they would have loved.
Those are some of my unbiased thoughts based on what you're looking for. Like I said, I work in the wireless industry, so if you'd like more info, I'm happy to share.
