My '01 9-5 required almost nothing during the original warranty period. Even in your case, the DIC would be $300, Turbo $500, Thottle Body $400 each time, all priced at Indy level (there wouldn't be a dealership to price gouge you on repairs if the company went under and nobody takes over to honor your warranty). That's a grand total of $1600 for what is an exceptionally bad case. If I were offered a $5-10k discount up front on purchase price in exchange for giving up the mfr's warranty, I'd take it, so long as the car is one among many new cars not a intentionally picked lemon.

The evaporator shortage was because the OG9-5 was almost unique in the US market; its platform mate Saturn L class sold only a few thousand units in a three-year time span. Even the Opel models sharing the platform went out of production in Europe many years ago. The OG9-5 was very late to the Opel platform, and thanks to Saab customization lasted much longer in the market place becoming the lone straggler in the world using that platform after about 2005 (picture changing after 2010 BAIC purchase of the tooling). The NG9-5 OTOH shares major components with the new Buick Regal in addition to Opel Insignia, both extremely well-selling models globally.

I'm not advocating people to buy the car to save Saab, but the deals stand on their own merit. The current market clearing price of a Turbo-4 is not much more than a comparably equipped Buick Regal, and you get a longer and better appointed car. The Turbo-6 is simply untouchable in terms of value compared to any alternative, after the current discounts; never mind Audi, BMW or Mercedes, even the Acura TL SH-AWD, the perennial price leader in this segment, can't beat the deal.
