The Fiat 500 is actually selling quite well, the problem is that Marchionne shot himself in the foot by stating a goal of 50,000 units (and he is infamous for overstating goals). That is just ridiculous for a brand introduction. Fiat is set to sell 20,000 500's this year, and that is actually amazing considering the ramp up of dealers, the poor marketing, only selling cars since April/May, etc. The thing is, the auto journalists just love to jump on stories like this and trash everything left and right (remember how they treat our SAAB?).

The biggest challenge will be maintaining momentum these next couple of years. Reaching 30,000 units of the 500 next year would be great.
