That seems like a pretty stupid thing for a tire professional to say.
Making sure that you understand that it might be 'more' tire than the car needs maybe, but to discourage going 'better' is anti-tire business.
Maybe a power place of wanting customers to do what he says rather than be educated about their needs and make their own choices ?
We have a large independent tire service chain here in the NW that will not install a tire that is not rated at or above what came on the car from the manufacturer. So a Saab that came with 'V' rated has to get V's.
Understanding the what and why of the ratings isn't considered.
