Adam,
as some say most people learn their own lessons - and that's true (until we finally find out that most people don't learn at all). I was aware about importance of the rear axle grip long ago and had spent many hours on snow tracks since then before one rainy day I was going along some freeway at about 60-65 mph (and it wasn't really fast - most of the others did the same and I was really in-traffic). But suddenly things went wrong after I hit a puddle and aquaplaning happened. In a second later I left that puddle and got back to the lane, but at small pitch angle. And the left rear tire hit some plastic road marking (pretty slippery when wet). Then things got really bad.
Long story short: always wear the seat belt and always put the best tires on the rear axle unless they all are on a par with each other. And do not listen to all those internets and garage gurus.
Best,
Zig
