are quite different. In my 2001 9-5, the rear tires wear out faster on the inside, whereas the fronts wear out faster on the outside. So rotation helps, as well has 3 months use of snow tires each year between the rotations in helping out evening out the wears on the all-season tires. The snow tires should never be allowed to wear down to a level where uneven wear matters.
