I didn't mention ABS brakes in my post. I should have.

I wouldn't have considered a bike with out them. In a car, if you lock up a wheel, it skids and the car stays upright. In a bike, a locked wheel almost certainly means you're on the ground.

I live in the sticks in Northern CA. I personally don't ride in traffic (There isn't any around). We had a dusting of snow last night, and I would get rained out way more than 15 days a year. SoCal has a very good climate for riding.
