Maybe the more technically literate Saabnet readers can read the below linked article and explain how the BMW 7 series start/stop button could possibly be considered defective when the anecdotal evidence screams driver error or carelessness.
The below quote I found particularly irritating - the driver admittedly failed to place the transmission into park, because he assumed that the car would do it for him when he shut off the ignition.

In another complaint, a driver reported that he parked his 2006 750 model BMW on Feb. 21, 2007, and it was supposed to automatically shift to park when he touched the stop-start button to turn off the car. Instead, after the driver left the car, it rolled backward about 100 feet (30 meters) and crashed into a lamppost, the driver told NHTSA. No one was injured. He did not set the parking brake.
