It was a 1963 MG Midget. And when I turned the key off everything stopped. A number of years later I had an old Volvo Amazon that had ignition keys that tended to break off. So I made the ignition an ON switch and installed a starter button. That worked fine, too. So to me this "Push to Start" nonsense is almost 50 years out of date.
I've rented a few cars with the push to start thing. It's OK, but it's also the answer to a question nobody asked. I don't get it at all. There just doesn't seem to be any value attached to it. You still need to have the key to get into the car and have it with you for the start button to work. You still need to do something to start the car, and pushing a button isn't much different than turning a key. And the "key" is ridiculously expensive to replace if you lose it. What's the point? Using a technology just because it can be done is pretty lame.
