I bought a cheap welder a dozen years ago to do sheet metal work, then when it started to have problems, I found I couldn't get parts for it - it was British made and I didn't have internet capability at the time. I then bought a Lincoln wire welder and converted it to mig right away. This was ten years ago and I have had no issues with it ever. I work in a tool rental center and we rent a Lincoln flux core wire welder. I use the welder all the time to repair my equipment, but I'm welding metal that is much thicker than metal used to repair automobile sheet metal. I've tried welding thin stuff with it, but this particular model will not turn down enough to weld it decent - it has a tendency to just want to melt holes.
I use mine at home all the time as metal work is sort of a hobby of mine. I used it last week to fabricate and weld some metal over my basement windows after a break in(12 year old kid stole my pickle jar full of pennies).
