Just for fun I have kept track of tire brands and country because of the avalanche of new exotic names popping up faster and faster. Some don't even dare to put country of origin on the tire.
This is only my believes and ramblings but I suspect that manufacturing a tire good enough so that is passes US test standards is probably not that big of a deal and just about any tire will pass with flying colors.
I have noticed that cheap no-name tires (or fly by night tire brands) usually have a better load, speed and wear rating than expensive well known brands, why is that?
Could it be that they use a lot more harder synthetic rubber that can hold loads and speeds easier and last forever but at the expanse of loss of traction? Who need traction anyway?
I believe that a no name fly by night tire brand couldn't care less if they fold after a two year run and maybe that's the whole plan and they open up again with new owners under a new fantastic name producing cheap tires that people flock to buy. And if the old tire receive a lot of negative feedback, that one is already gone from the market.
Another suspicion of sinister nature is that maybe some of these no name brands might actually be owned by the big well known brands in some sneaky ways that cannot be traced so that they can also get a piece of the pie from people wanting cheap tires without tarnishing their own name.
Who knows, but for sure, there are more and more tires manufactured in China and other Asian countries.
