LED headlights: strange behavior w. turn signals?

I've just begun to notice that most new cars with those arrays of white LEDs for headlights almost always switch OFF one headlight when the turn signal on the same side of the car is activated, and the front amber turn signal light start blinking. Noticed it in the rearview this morning when a new large Audi coupe was in back of me, and again on a Nissan SUV.
Seems a bit odd, at least to me...
