I do enjoy it!
Note that if you think Saab parts are expensive, wait until you have a Porsche - even an entry level model. I did the clutch this winter and that was almost $1,000 just in parts. A waterpump is over $300.
Also, straight line speed by modern standards is nothing to write home about, even with the S2 model (unless you get a Turbo and add more boost). My 9-5 Aero wagon could take my 944S2 in a straight line, but around Mid-Ohio Sports Car course the 944 would leave the 9-5 in the dust. It is a real sports car.
It can be hard to find one in good shape, since young kids can pick up a 1985 NA for $4,000-$5,000, but then they realize they can't afford to maintain it, so there can be a lot of deferred maintenance if you're not careful. And if you do find one that's been looked after, you'll probably pay a premium for it.
Truthfully a boxster is probably better value than a 944, but the 944 is certainly more of a classic.
I like mine, and have no plans on trading it for anything else right now, but you have to go into 944 ownership with your eyes open - kind of like owning a Saab!
