Bought a house from my great uncle. He was the original owner and the house was built in 1958. All of the appliances were original except the fridge. I dated the GE serial number on the fridge and it is from 1982. My uncle said he never did anything to it and its been running for 32 years with no issues.
I hooked up a Killawatt energy meter and it only uses 2.5-3 kwh's a day. Electricity is expensive (3rd highest) here in CT at about .20 a KWH. So my 32 year old fridge cost about $15-18 a month. Many people say they dont make stuff like they used to and to keep running it. Some of the new fridges look much more energy effiecient but the payback looks to be a really long time. I also hear the new stuff with all the digital controls have issues. Keep running it or replace?
On a side note. My 1958 Frigidaire oven (says on it made by General Motors) still works perfect.. I know a GM product..
