Remember, $300,000 in 30 years time is not going to be equivalent to $300k now. I am a CPA and review tax returns for some pretty high net worth individuals. The highest RMD that I recall offhand is in the high $200's but this guy was a C-suite executive in a Fortune 100 company and is in his late 80s or early 90s now. No offense, but I'm guessing his net worth is quite a lot higher than yours.

Do not move those tax deferred funds to taxable status! That is irreversible. Convert them to a Roth IRA if you must - that's a good idea if doing that smooths out your income over the rest of your life. If your biggest problem in retirement is that you are having to withdraw way more than you need to live on, that's a pretty good problem to have. If that's a real concern then why work until 68? Unless you really prefer working than tooling around Michigan in your Viggen (saw it in Hemmings S&E -- very cool!)
