Saab 9-2X vs Outback XT vs 9-5 vs 9000

I'm casually looking for a replacement for my wife's 1998 9000 since it is coming up on 200k miles and has a couple of small rust spots developing. I have a 9-5 Aero myself and like it, but don't love it, so I'm trying to find something that's as much fun as a 9000 but in a more modern package.
I've never had a Subaru and that's an obvious choice for a lifelong Saaber. And if I'm looking at WRX's then a Saab 9-2X makes even more sense since the Saab versions seem to be cheaper than the equivalent Subaru version and are likely less abused. So I test drove a 2005 with 138k miles on it at the weekend. It handled well and felt very tight, especially considering its mileage. But on the downside:
- it felt very small inside
- the cabin just seemed cheap and flimsy - not what I was expecting
- manual seats with limited adjustments - I couldn't get comfortable in them
It was so nice to get back in the 9000 for the drive home - just being cosseted by those fantastic seats and having all that power on tap (obviously it's very easy to mod the 9-2X to get more power than you could ever need).
The one think I will say about the 9-2X is that at 138k it was apparently still on all of its original suspension (bushings, shocks etc.) and felt great. When I got my 2004 9-5 with 110k, I had to replace almost everything there - and it still doesn't handle as well as the 9-2X.
I also drove an Outback XT - pretty nice, but the lack of legroom in the front passenger seat (and the seats in general) was a dealbreaker.
So back to the drawing board - or I just keep that 9000 running for a few more years!
