Upgrade my old iMac or...?

I have a mid-2007 iMac, which I mainly use for web surfing, email and watching streaming movies/TV shows. And updating my car maintenance spreadsheets of course. The problem is that it is getting pretty slow, especially at opening programs (once they're up and running it's usually not a problem). I figure I have a few options and just wondering if the Saabnet braintrust can chip in with their thoughts.
Option 1: Replace internal hard drive with solid state drive. Would be around $150 or so for a 240GB SSD. I would probably also increase the RAM from current 4GB to its max of 6GB. Total cost of SSD + RAM + misc pieces maybe $250. Big advantage to this option is the cost. Downsides are having to crack open my Mac to replace the HDD and in the end it's still a 7 year old machine with maxed out RAM of 6GB, so may be limited on future OS upgrades.
Option 2: Sell my iMac and buy a newer one (say 2011 or so). If I want to go with a well spec'd machine with a SSD I'm probably looking at $800 less maybe $200 for my machine, so net of $600.
Option 3: New iMac. Base price $1,300 but would likely end up upgrading RAM and possibly spec a SSD also, so total cost could be $1,400-$1,800 say.
Option 4: Stop drinking the Apple Koolaid and buy a new Windows machine. Assume I could buy something pretty nice for less than $1,000, and I know there's a lot less difference between Apple and Windows than there was when I bought my first Mac in 1990!
