It's been a while since I've dismantled a Mac laptop, but in the past their frames are generally better constructed than PCs... it's not universally true, the magnesium frames on the Thinkpads for example were stellar. But the average Mac is generally better constructed than the average PC.
That said, I have dismantled several XPS13s (for upgrades) and they are pretty stout inside. I've not had anyone smash one yet, but it sure seems they'd take a beating.
It MS Office is the Big Thing, I would strongly consider a PC - Windows 8 and Office 365 integration with Onedrive is a fan-effing-tastic work environment. It was the first thing that caused to me look seriously into Windows 8, and ultimate switch out my laptop for a Dell XPS convertible running 8.1. My desktop is still Win7, because touchscreens on desktops are weird and dual monitor support on 8 is weird ;) But the 8+Office+convertible is a great mobile solution.
