That's what you're buying into with Office 365, OneDrive, etc. Basically it looks like Microsoft's goal is to make your PC little more than a terminal on their network, with them charging rent for the privilege. (Conceptually pushing computing back 40+ years to the days of the old computing service bureaus.) They'll move people even further towards that goal with Windows 10 and it's likely they'll implement a rental model for the operating system in the future.
I guess it's OK if that's what you want and you trust Microsoft with your stuff. It wouldn't be for me. (In fact I don't trust so-called "cloud" services in general unless they're under my own control on my own server.)
