My service department didn't like my code reader. Posted by adl6009 [Email] (#2526) [Profile/Gallery] (more from adl6009) on Thu, 6 Aug 2015 21:49:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a one year old jeep which had been throwing MIL's, (malfunction indicator light) if they are blinking you bring it in, If they are solid don't worry about them. They will often reset themselves. So today I bring it in for a state inspection and to check the mil codes that are stored in memory. When I pick up the car, the service writer tells me the car passed inspection, the software update went in ok, but I had left my code reader plugged in and that had caused the several conflicting codes his mechanic read in the computer. And before he can do anything about it I have to not plug in my code reader and bring the car in if I get another code. I don't really believe him, do you? My readout for the last 3 weeks has been a p1297 code that was cleared 52 restarts ago. OK, I admit I'm no expert but just leaving the reader in the slot for the 2 mile drive to the dealer probably didn't screw up the computer. The times I checked the code recently all had consistent information, p1297 code with a count of how many restarts. No other codes.
Anyway, this got a little long, thanks for letting me rant. What do you think, was he a little rank and felt I was invading his domain? Shouldn
't I have the right to that information, via my own code reader?
