In my case I didn't even though I had the license plate info. A person went into the rear bumper just enough to scrape off a section of paint. I happened to have touch up paint and crudely painted over the area. It's not that good but you can't tell from a distance. Your taking action probably depends on how old is your car, how meticulous you are in trying to preserve it, and if you are willing to spend a lot of effort.
