The Rennaisance is a great place to stay; pricey, but worth it. You are in a downtown location near restaurants, they have a casino, and they also have private island that has a beautiful sea-walled lagoon. They take you there via private boat. It is lovely.
The hotels further north have incredibly crowded beaches, so the private island was a major plus. I think the lagoon might also be nice for your wife as is the easy downtown access and in hotel casino. You can look at the private island on google maps - it is the very long barrier island offshore from the airport. It has nice walking trails that are flat and short. Great shelling, too.
Here's a link to their web page. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We did our whole stay on Marriott miles, so the cost was irrelevant to us, but it's not horribly expensive as I recall. Rent a jeep to explore the island for a day - it is not very big.
