Dang, have you been talking to my son? He said today he is leaning toward driving the car pretty much as is with minimal repairs. A new rear bumper skirt and a new rear taillight will address the biggest appearance item and the only thing approaching a safety item. A new discounted rear bumper skin, two new bumper rub strips, two back-up lights (only because the others are original, a new discounted tail light assembly, and professional painting of the skin will total around $500 based on tonight's research. After that he will have only a broad shallow dent in the rear fender remaining.
Then he says he will look at getting a different car in the Fall when prices typically drop significantly with new sales incentives. He was hoping to get two years out of this one, but now says he might look at a recent model used car to get 6 years of use which will take him through Residency, or a new heavily discounted car. Either way, he will look hard to know he is getting a good deal rather than jumping at the first thing that appears suitable and affordable.
